The Cedarsong Way - Teacher Training
The Cedarsong Way is an entirely-outdoor early childhood education model. Through Cedarsong’s Forest Kindergarten Teacher Training Program, you'll learn how to create a successful Forest Kindergarten or how to successfully integrate a commitment to nature time every day within your existing school program. Completion of the 5-day program earns you a Cedarsong Forest Kindergarten Teacher Training Certification.
As part of your training, you will receive the Cedarsong Teacher Training Packet which includes a copy of Erin Kenny’s book “Forest Kindergartens: The Cedarsong Way,” The Cedarsong Way Teaching and Program Manual, Erin Kenny and Robin Rogers’ book “Nature Notes Journal: Documenting Your Emergent Curriculum,” and the Cedarsong documentary DVD.
The Cedarsong Way Residential Teacher Training Program is designed to prepare you to start your own forest kindergarten program or learn how to apply the foundational principles of The Cedarsong Way Forest Kindergarten model to any pre-existing program.
You will learn in detail about the distinguishing features of The Cedarsong Way Forest Kindergarten model, including a commitment to 100% nature immersion, authentic free play, unstructured flow learning, child-inspired emergent curriculum, inquiry-based teaching style and documentation of the learning. You will also learn how to make your outdoor program a success by understanding the most essential elements such as appropriate clothing, building the parent community and risk and hazards management. This detailed training consists of a total of 25 hours of training over the course of five consecutive days.
All training sessions provide an opportunity to meet with the Cedarsong teachers and national leaders. Additionally, you can look forward to discussion and workshop time regarding risk and hazards management, working with kids diagnosed with SPD, autism or ADHD and what qualities make for a Natural Teacher. You will participate in outdoor experiential workshops in nature immersion, inquiry-based teaching style and get practice and guidance in capturing and documenting the learning. All of the questions you bring will be answered.
After completion of the Teacher Training, you will receive a Certificate verifying that you have completed the 25 hour course, as well as have access to a closed Facebook group of other trained teachers.

Asheville Farmstead School is a non-profit outdoor farm-based school designed to teach homesteading, natural sciences, life skills, sustainability, and agriculture to children and families. Asheville Farmstead is located on 25 acres of forested land tucked in a quite cove 20 minutes from down town Asheville.
The goal of Asheville Farmstead is to connect students to an increased awareness of the natural world, the complexities of agriculture and the interrelations of living communities. We serve preschool youth, summer campers, schools, groups and nature-loving families.
Since 2004, Nature Nuts has been a family-focused and family-run organization. We support and encourage children’s understanding and appreciation of nature, community and self through a variety of programs.
Through exploration, adventure and creative play, children play together in small groups gaining knowledge of plants, animals, traditional skills and sustainability. Year-round learning takes place on our private, forested property in rural Maple Valley. Early childhood learning has never been so fun!
