Year-round 100% outdoor, school day program for children ages 2-7

At Nature Nuts, children have fun exploring the forest with friends from treetops to dirt and puddles with slugs and bugs and birds and squirrels in between. In addition to the forest, we also have extensive gardens for children to learn to grow their own vegetables and flowers. We believe that hands-on learning is the best educational approach for children. Being outdoors provides them with not only fresh air; it encourages imaginative play, creativity, hand-eye coordination, balance, physical strength and mental clarity.

Our unique setting and very low class size allows children the freedom to lead the way, to go on an adventure, without the climate of fear that is so common these days.

Take a Tour

We encourage you to come visit Nature Nuts and learn more about our nationally recognized program. Due to COVID, we won’t be having Open House events for new families. If you are interested in visiting our program, please contact us to arrange a personal tour.

To ensure that this would be a good fit for all, families who wish to apply need to first bring their child for a tour. You’re invited to let your child play their way through our variety of camps and outdoor classroom areas, ask questions, and get to know more about what it’s like to enroll in an all outdoor school.

If you’re preferred class is full, please consider visiting us anyway to get on the waitlist as openings do occur throughout the school year.

Private vs Public Space

“For special places to work their magic on kids they need to be able to do some clamber and damage. They need to be free to climb trees, muck about, catch things, and get wet—above all, to leave the trail.” Pyle, 2002

Too old for Forest Kindergarten?

Interested in joining us for Forest Kindergarten but your child is on the older end of our age range? Check out our sister program Natural Learning Northwest!

They are focused on working with children ages 6-10 and have four class options each week. Their programs are run very similarly and make a great addition for folks who are unschooling with older children and want more outdoor time.
